Somewhere out there may be a horse that would completely change your riding journey. A horse that fits your goals, your personality, your experience level, and the way you like to ride. A horse that would make every training session more enjoyable and every competition more exciting. The question is: will you ever meet?
Most riders assume that finding the right horse is difficult because there are too many horses to try. In reality, the biggest challenge comes much earlier. You cannot ride every horse on the market. But more importantly, you cannot even see every horse on the market. The horse market is large, fragmented, and scattered across dozens of different places. There are agents, sales stables, breeders, websites, marketplaces, Facebook groups, private networks, word-of-mouth recommendations, and social media posts that disappear from sight within hours. Finding your horse often becomes a full-time job before you even arrange the first viewing.
Where Do People Look For Horses Today?
Many riders start by contacting an agent.
A good agent can be invaluable. I have spent more than 20 years in the horse industry and know many professionals who genuinely care about creating the right match between horse and rider. The best agents are knowledgeable, honest, and deeply invested in helping their clients. The challenge is simply that every agent only has access to a certain network of horses. To explore a significant part of the market, buyers often need to contact multiple agents, send multiple requests, and repeat the same conversations over and over again.
Then there are the large horse marketplaces.
They provide access to many horses in one place, which is incredibly valuable. However, as these platforms grow, they often become crowded with advertisements, promoted listings, and thousands of horses competing for attention. Sometimes it becomes difficult for buyers to focus on what they are actually looking for.
And then there are Facebook groups.
Interestingly, even some of the best riders and sales stables still use Facebook to advertise horses that are publicly available. There is clearly a demand for a place where horses can be discovered. The problem is that Facebook was never designed to be a horse marketplace. There are no meaningful filters, posts disappear quickly, algorithms decide what people see, and excellent horses can be lost within hours. To follow multiple groups effectively, buyers often have to spend countless hours scrolling every day.
What If Buyers Didn't Have To Choose Where To Look?
What if quality horses from agents, sales stables, breeders, riders, and private sellers could all be discovered in one place? Not because one way of selling horses is better than another, but because every channel has something valuable to offer. Great agents have access to incredible horses. Sales stables invest enormous effort into presenting their horses professionally. Riders, breeders, and private owners often have wonderful horses that may never appear on a traditional marketplace.nThe challenge is not the lack of horses. The challenge is that they are scattered across dozens of different places. And perhaps that is where horse sales are heading next — not towards replacing agents, marketplaces, or social media, but towards creating a space where all of them can coexist, making it easier for buyers to discover the horses they are looking for.
A Romantic Dream
Perhaps this sounds a little romantic, but I have always had a simple vision. I would love to create a place where buyers know they can find quality horses from trusted professionals, and where sales stables, agents, breeders, riders, and private sellers can present their horses without worrying that they will disappear among endless noise. A place where horses do not get lost, and perhaps even more importantly, a place where buyers do not miss the horse they have been looking for. That is one of the reasons we built horses.sale. Not simply as another marketplace, but as a platform designed around matching horses and people.
Buyers can leave detailed requests describing exactly what they are looking for and receive notifications when matching horses are added. At the same time, we are building tools that help horses stand out, be presented more effectively, and reach the people they are meant for.
Maybe there is no such thing as a perfect horse. Or maybe there is. What I do know is that some horses truly change everything. And if that horse already exists somewhere, hidden among thousands of listings, social media posts, and private networks, then finding each other should not depend on luck.
My dream is simple: to create a place where horses are easier to discover, where great matches happen more often, and where horses and people find each other.
